Apple drops 4G from iPad adverts
16/05/2012
Apple has dropped the phrase 4G from all advertising on its latest iPad.
The description proved controversial as 4G is not widely available in the UK and Australia.
While it was noted that the iPad won't work where there is 4G coverage in some areas.
The UK's advertising watchdog and others around the world investigated Apple over the use of the 4G phrase with Australian Competition and Consumer Commission taking Apple to court for false advertising.
Apple said the confusion arose because of the ways operators refer to different high-speed mobile technologies.
In a statement, the company said the advanced wireless features of the new iPad have not changed, however, for clarity's sake it has removed the description from ads.
"Therefore we've decided to use 'wi-fi + cellular' as a simple term which describes all the high speed networks supported by the new iPad," the statement continued.
