Apple vs Samsung judge urges 'peace'

16/08/2012

The US judge presiding over the high-stakes patent trial between Apple and Samsung has suggested that "it's time for peace" between the two firms before the verdict is handed over to the jury.

US District Judge Lucy Koh is in charge of the case where both companies are suing one another over a number of different design and wireless patents.

With time running out for cross-examination, Judge Koh has urged the chief executives of both companies to speak to each other at least once to see if a resolution can be found.

She suggested that Tim Cook and Samsung's key executives have at least a telephone discussion and the lawyers of both firms said they would relay her request to their respective camps.

"If you all had wanted is to raise awareness that you have IP [intellectual property] on these devices, messages delivered. I see risk here for both sides if we go to a verdict," Judge Koh added.
