Australians watching more videos on mobile phones
21/02/2012
Australians are watching more than twice as much video content on mobile phones as they were just nine months ago, according to recent research.
In the first three months of 2011, people in the country consumed an average of just 35 minutes per month of video on mobile phones. By the final quarter of the year this figure had risen to one hour and 20 minutes.
Though this is still a low figure compared to the 113 hours and 38 minutes per month spent watching television in real time, the rise is part of a broader pattern of change in the way people consume their videos, the Sydney Morning Herald reports.
Among the video content that people are watching on their mobile phones is bound to be coverage of the AFL and NRL, which has been available on Optus despite the company not being the official broadcast rights holders.
Following a court ruling the firm has been allowed to continue to allow people to stream the coverage to their mobile phones.
