Mobile Sellers Could Benefit From Android Users Bid To Differentiate

Those who sell mobile phones may be in line to take advantage of a desire among a number of firms to differentiate themselves from the competition.

Michael Morgan, senior analyst of mobile devices at ABI Research, said original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) that have adopted the Android operating system can find it is hard to find a unique selling point.

He noted many once thought they could differentiate on user interface, but Google's superiority in this area means the majority have stuck with its software.

"This has been a sticky wicket for every OEM that has adopted Android to date," confirmed the expert.

Mr Morgan went on to suggest that some may now try to stand out with low prices, while others could offer more hardware than rivals – all of which is set to benefit consumers.

ABI Research recently revealed that more than 30 million mobile phones running on Android were shipped in the first quarter of 2011.
