Samsung 'not considering' purchasing RIM
09/08/2012
Samsung has said on Thursday ( August 9th) that it is not considering purchasing the embattled Research In Motion (RIM) nor will it license its new operating system.
Shares of RIM briefly shot up more than five per cent early on Wednesday after an analyst had claimed that it may license the BlackBerry 10 system to Samsung.
Lee Sei-cheol of Meritz Securities said told Reuters that RIM had already lost most of its initiative but the company may be appealing to the likes of Samsung if it had a "deep patent pool".
Indeed, reports earlier this summer claimed that RIM was looking to sell its handset business BlackBerry after falling way behind its main rivals in the smartphone market.
RIM's shares have plummeted more than 80 per cent since the beginning of 2011, which is when Apple and other mobile phone makers begun to widen their lead over the company.
