Sell my mobile: Telstra raises costs for fixed-line mobile phone plans

27/07/2012

Telstra has announced it will be raising costs on many of its mobile phone price plans for the first time in nine years.

From October 1st, local calls will increase by two cents on some plans.

The company said, when taking inflation into account, these charges have effectively fallen 19 per cent in the last nine years as they have remained fixed.

Mobile phone customers will now be charged in one-minute blocks instead of 30-second blocks.

A spokeswoman for the firm said earlier this month that its call rates allow it to maintain an appropriate level of investment.

BBY telecommunications analyst Mark McDonnell told ABC that the price rises will help offset poor performances elsewhere in the company.

"In respect of the mobile phone increases, they're conscious that Vodafone is really struggling at the present time - its financial results came out this week, there was a $262 million loss," he remarked.
