Adverts received through mobile phones could become more commonplace as the cost of this form of marketing goes down, it has been claimed.
Pinder Takhar, spokesperson for Dialogue Communications, said that companies could use text messages to send offers to potential customers, instead of them having to go on the internet to receive them.
The expert said that it may be more convenient for people to take advantage of discounts this way, since they may already be in a town close to the relevant shop.
“Everyone has their mobile with them at all times now,” she pointed out.
This may also open up avenues for contactless technology, since consumers could use vouchers received via text to pay for goods and services.
Figures from browser manufacturer Opera recently showed that the number of people using the internet on their mobiles went up by 63.4 per cent in January when compared with December.
