Following the launch of the Apple iPhone 3G, one expert has suggested a smartphone is nothing if it hasn’t got speed.
A spokesman for online gadget news and reviews portal Pocket-lint said recently that for many people, camera quality, screen size and other gadgets are what convince them to buy the latest phones.
However, as a reporter for the site, Duncan Geere said he believes there is little point having a smartphone with a poor processor – as it will not function to the best of its ability.
“I’m not sure that consumers realise that yet,” he explained, adding such technology can affect “the speed of launching applications, switching between portrait and landscape mode, use of the camera, et cetera”.
One of the most recent releases, the Apple iPhone 3G S, is designed to be a faster, more feature-packed version of the original touchscreen smartphone and claims to be twice the speed.
