Apple has announced the fastest iOS adoption ever, with over 50 per cent of iPhone and iPad users having already upgraded to the latest version of the firmware – iOS 9.
This is according to data gathered by Apple from the App Store on September 19th – just ten days after iOS 9 launched on September 9th.
Senior vice-president of worldwide marketing at Apple Philip Schiller said iOS 9 is “off to an amazing start, on pace to be downloaded by more users than any other software release in Apple's history”.
The computer manufacturing giant claims that iOS 9 is the most powerful mobile operating system in the world.
It brings more intelligent and intuitive features to the firm's range of devices, including proactive assistance. User activity is monitored – and the features the individual is most likely to use at any given time of day are displayed on the home screen at the appropriate time.
Search functions are more powerful than before and Siri – the personal assistant – has also been improved.
The foundation of iOS has also been improved in the latest update, so future software updates will require less memory space.
Apple also announced that the latest versions of its iPhone – the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus – will be made available at 8am local time in its stores on September 25th.
Mr Schiller said the customer response to the launch has been very positive, and that he cannot wait for consumers to start buying the products and offering their responses.
