Apple has released a patent for a flexible, wraparound screen that could be coming to the next generation of iPhones.
It seems unlikely that the technology will be ready for the iPhone 6, therefore the iPhone 7 may be the first to see this radical design.
The screen will be entirely flexible and probably made using either sapphire or another crystal.
The device will also be able to sense rotational motion, and perhaps most unusually will be completely hollow.
Keen observers may have noticed that this is a very similar idea to a patent that Samsung has filed, detailing a flexible screen that curves down the edges of the phone.
However, Apple’s patent features a screen that wraps completely around the mobile phone, which might be different enough to give the American firm the edge over its rivals.
