The iPhone 3G is to receive an upgrade to its operating system (OS), which Apple has offered a preview of this week.
It has emerged that the 3.0 blueprint of the platform will include a number of changes aimed at improving on the existing handset’s integrated software system.
Among these alterations will be the ability to search (data on?) the device, as well as read and compose text messages and emails in a landscape viewing format – features which may interest those looking to replace a used mobile phone.
In addition, a new cut copy and paste facility will be introduced, as well as enhanced Bluetooth and voice memo applications – all moves Apple senior vice-president of worldwide product marketing, Philip Schiller, believes will put it out ahead of the competition.
“The new iPhone OS 3.0 is a major software release packed with incredible new features and innovations for iPhone customers and developers alike. It will keep us years ahead of the competition,” he aid.
Last week, Apple unveiled the revised version of its iPod shuffle music player.
