The success of Apple's apps may persuade some people to trade in their mobile phones and switch to a device provided by the manufacturer.
Apple has confirmed downloads of its features have now topped 15 billion, with more than 200 million consumers contributing to that figure by adding apps to their iPhones, iPads and iPods.
Philip Schiller, senior vice-president of worldwide product marketing at the company, said the App Store has become one of the world's most exciting online portals in the three years since it was launched.
“Thank you to all of our amazing developers who have filled it with over 425,000 of the coolest apps and to our over 200 million iOS users for surpassing 15 billion downloads,” he stated.
The iPad alone has more than 100,000 apps that are native to it, while the App Store overall offers some 425,000.
In May, Apple launched its iWork tools, making working from one of its devices easier than ever.
