Apple stores in Australia were the first to open their doors to iPhone 5 customers at 08:00 on September 21st.
Reports say that hundreds of Aussies lined up in queues outside retail establishments across the country.
Release of Apple products often generates hype and many dedicated fans even camp out for days beforehand to ensure they get their hands on the gadgets first.
Those who were amongst the first to pre-order the iPhone 5 on Apple's online store should also be receiving an eagerly-awaited package on Friday.
Stock of the smartphone depleted within just hours of pre-orders becoming available on September 14th (17:01 EST).
This resulted in a record-high two million sales being recorded in the first 24 hours. This combined with massive queues across the globe could make this is the most successful iPhone ever.
Those Aussies who purchase any version of the handset (black or white; 16GB, 32GB or 64GB) on the website now will have to wait three to four weeks for the device to be shipped.
