Facebook fans might wish to look into taking cash for phones and upgrading to an Apple iPad over the coming weeks, as the social network's official app for the portal seemingly edges closer.

According to the latest reports, a blogger has claimed to have uncovered the Facebook app for the tablet device.

Writing for technology site TechCrunch, the author suggested that details of the tool were located deep within the code of the current iPhone option.

A spokesman for the social network played down the reports, stating it is always working on many new projects.

But the blogger stated: “I can't be sure if this is the version they'll actually ship, but based on everything I've seen, I'm going to assume it's at least very close to the version they're going to ship.”

US manufacturer Apple released the iPad 2 – the latest incarnation of the popular tablet – earlier this year.
