A technology industry expert has predicted that Apple will launch a new iPhone 5S handset in June next year, adapting the usual release pattern.
Peter Misek of Jefferies also believes that the mobile phone will be available in a range of different colours.
The device casing is usually only black or white, but Apple may take the same approach as with the latest iPod Touch and offer more vibrant shades.
Windows Phone 8 (WP8) smartphones like the HTC 8X and Nokia Lumia 920 have a variety of differently coloured shells available, so the American manufacturer may want to compete for the customers who prefer additional personalisation.
There is also speculation that the new iPhone will have Near Field Communication (NFC) capabilities.
Many were surprised that the sixth-generation handset did not support the wireless transfer technology, as popular gadgets like the Samsung Galaxy S3 had already adopted it.
This could be integrated with the iOS 6 Passbook application, which stores e-tickets and virtual vouchers.
