Apple has announced that enhanced editions of all seven books in JK Rowling’s ever-popular Harry Potter series have been made exclusively available through its proprietary iBooks ereader software.
This means that iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users will be able to enjoy the series in a whole new light on the go at all times.
Each book can be downloaded by customers individually and will feature the full original text, as well as interactive animations and elaborate artwork to really bring the classic stories to life in a whole new way.
Annotations written by Ms Rowling herself are included in the texts, adding more depth to the wizarding world of Hogwarts.
This is the first time the Harry Potter series has been made available digitally through a vendor other than the dedicated Pottermore Shop.
Apple users will be able to enjoy exclusive custom covers for each title, as well as having the chance to read the titles in a range of topographies, such as the custom Harry Potter typefaces and new section headers and drop caps.
Tim Cook, chief executive officer of Apple, said Harry Potter fans and children new to the works will undoubtedly be delighted to see their favourite stories brought to life in an exciting new way.
“JK Rowling’s legendary series is perfect for enjoying on your iPad or iPhone and we’re thrilled to offer them exclusively on the iBooks Store,” he commented.
Ms Rowling said: “I’m thrilled to see the Harry Potter books so beautifully realised on iBooks for the digital world – the artwork and animations in these enhanced editions bring the stories alive in a delightful new way.”
