How to use your smartphone when travelling

Travelling is one of the most stressful things that you can experience, there is the need to remember your passport, keys, money before you have even left the house, let alone manage yourself and family in a foreign territory.

However, there are many ways in which you can now use your smartphone to ensure you have a relatively stress-free trip, the only thing that we can’t promise is that it will help ensure the weather is great wherever you are going.

First of all, many people are now actually using their smartphones to research and book their holidays. There are so many apps that are available, and most airlines and hotel comparison sites have their own apps which are easy to use and will let you book and pay for your trip through them. It is also handy doing it this way as it means you can take a screenshot of your booking to make matters easier when it comes to check in.

Ensure you pack well for your trip by using a weather app to see how hot or cold it will be in your chosen destination. Most smartphones come with one already featured, but there are a number which can be downloaded which will let you manually add your current destination as well as where you plan to visit.

You can also make sure that you have really packed well by using one of the many list building apps that are available, such as PackPoint, to remind yourself what you need to purchase and add to your suitcase. Long gone are the days where you arrive at your hotel only to remember you forgot your toothbrush!

When it comes to actually checking in for your flight, paper boarding cards will soon be a thing of the past as the majority of airlines offer a smartphone option, allowing you to enter your details and check in on your device before receiving a digital boarding card which you can then scan at the airport. This saves on time and eliminates any last minute stresses that might arise should you be prone to losing things, or your printer runs out of ink which seems to always happen when it is needed the most.

Make sure you download some fun gaming apps before you board the plane as they will definitely help to pass the time if you are on a long haul flight and have exhausted the in-flight entertainment. Obiously, you will need to ensure your phone is on Airplane Mode, but you will be surprised how quickly time flies when you’re having fun (Candy Crush fun, to be specific).

One of the greatest parts of going on holiday is sampling another culture’s delicious food and the Foodspotting which is available to download onto iPhones is a particularly handy one to have when going away on holiday. Not only does it help you see which restaurants are in the area, but it also offers recommendations from other foodspotters and friends who have visited a particular eatery to make sure you get the best experience possible.
