One of the many exciting things about the iPhone X release on November 3rd was that it would be the most expensive smartphone Australia has seen. The $1,829 price tag did not put people off, however, with sales being very impressive. However, the handset might not be able to lay claim to being the most expensive for much longer.
Huawei has announced that a special Porsche Design Mate 10 is coming to Australia's shores, and it will set you back even more than the iPhone X. The special smartphone – designed in collaboration with the famed car manufacturer – will cost a staggering $1,899 to purchase.
Apple will still get to have the most expensive handset for just over a month, however, as the Porsche Design Mate 10 will not be released until December 4th. Even then, it looks like it will only be available in a small capacity, with Huawei saying that limited quantities of the phone will be making their way to Australia.
The cost of the handset will be around $800 more than the Huawei Mate 10 pro. But what are you actually getting for this money? Well, the Porsche Design has the highest spec of the Mate 10 series, with 6GB of RAM and 256GB ROM in its memory cortex. You'll also get a custom Porsche user interface.
Other design features include an attractive handset, with Huawei highlighting the phone's “glass uni-body construction and sleek handcrafted exterior”. The Porsche Design will be available exclusively in Diamond Black, with a racetrack design on the rear that complements the camera.
Finally, you'll also wind up with an exclusive, custom-made leather phone case and a Porsche-branded USB-C to 3.5 mm Headphone Jack Adapter. All these extras certainly add to the value of the Mate 10, but we'll have to wait and see if the public agree that they are worth shelling out $1,899 for.
