People thinking of trading in their mobiles and upgrading to one of the latest phones on the market should opt for a model that runs apps, as these are here to stay, in the opinion of one expert.
Dr Windsor Holden, author of the Juniper Research Blog, says there are often rumours and speculation that such tools are on the way out of fashion.
He notes industry insiders of the ilk of Google's engineering vice-president Vic Gundotra once wrote of apps as a “fad”.
Dr Holden goes on to suggest the sector is now well past the stage of being a fad and portals such as Apple's AppStore are now experiencing ten billion downloads a year.
And the confirmation that Amazon is to join the list of operators of app outlets is further proof that the functions are going to play a huge role in the mobile market for some time to come, he confirms.
One of the newest models to be confirmed that runs apps is the iPad 2, which Apple launched in California earlier this month.
