Consumers without a smartphone may be best off trading-in an old mobile and splashing out on the latest technology, as it can change their lives, according to one expert.

Ludwig Makhyan, founder of, says devices such as the iPhone, BlackBerry models and pieces from the HTC range are now integral.

“Since smartphones are the next generation of portable computer devices, I am sure that they will be widely adopted and quite useful for the public,” he explains.

Mr Makhyan goes on to note the role of modern handsets has become so great that many people are now entirely dependent on them.

Trading-in used phones to raise some of the cash towards a smartphone may be a shrewd way of investing in one.

The capabilities of the iPhone were highlighted recently by the release of the iStethoscope Free app, which can be used to record heartbeats.
