Mobile phones are a major expense for most Australians. Whether you're buying the latest $1,000 (or more) handset or signing up to a $50 per month plan, it seems they're constantly draining our bank accounts. However, if that is putting you off getting on board the smartphone craze, then fear not; there is another option.
Quite a few companies are bringing out budget handsets, so no need to shell out $1,900 for the iPhone X! There are plenty of good options out there, like the Samsung Galaxy J2 or the Motorola Moto G5 Plus. For many people, however, the main expense is not the smartphone itself but how much they have to pay each month for calls, texts and mobile data.
To solve this issue, Brisbane-based telco Moose Mobile has announced a budget mobile phone plan that will only set you back $8 each month. This is the perfect option if you're not sure if you're ready for a smartphone, as it is cheap enough for you to trial it out and not have to commit to anything too expensive.
For $8 per month, you will get unlimited text messaging to all Australian and international numbers when texting from Australia. You'll also get 200 minutes of calls to Australian mobile and landline numbers, plus 13/300 and 1800 numbers.
Finally, you'll also get an impressive 500MB of mobile data. This is not enough for streaming video or music, of course, but it will be more than enough for checking your emails and social media accounts when you need to. And, of course, you will still be able to use wifi.
Moose Mobile CEO Dean Lwin said the plan was intended for older customers, as well as younger children, who were still learning the ropes of smartphone use.
