Google has released a new calendar app on its Play store which mobile phone owners running Android Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.3 and above can download and use.
The standalone tool is free and has already received over one million installations, with 4,000 ratings putting it at 4.5 stars.
Users of the Google platform already benefit from a built-in calendar tool, but the new application has added features and updates can be provided without entire operating system upgrades.
The latest data from the technology giant shows that a quarter (25.5 per cent) of Android users has compatible software versions.
One of the main benefits is the ability to quickly send a message to other event attendants from an app notification, so smartphone owners could quickly let friends know that they are running late to a birthday party.
Notifications can also be 'snoozed', so that if a user cannot complete a task at the intended time they can easily be reminded later.
