When it comes to smartphone brands, you've probably heard of the big ones – Apple, Samsung, HTC and the like – but there are so many that some are bound to pass you by. However, some of the lesser-known companies could be producing some of the best products out there, as the latest Canstar Blue Award suggests.
Chinese brand OPPO has been awarded the 2018 Canstar Blue “Most Satisfied Customers – Smartphones” award, following a survey of 1,800 Australians. Despite being a brand many Aussies will never have heard of, OPPO managed to score five stars out of five in a number of different categories.
Consumers gave the Chinese company top marks when it came to battery life, camera quality and value for money. It also scored five stars in the “overall satisfaction” category.
While not quite perfect, OPPO still scored four stars in the categories of user friendliness, speed, and appearance and style. The next-highest scoring brand was Apple, which got five stars in all three of the categories in which OPPO didn't perform as well. However, it was let down by a three-star score for value for money.
Overall, OPPO was the only brand to score five stars. Apple, Samsung, HTC and Motorola each scored four, while Huawei, Sony and ZTE only managing to score three. The lowest score given out went to ZTE, which only managed to get two stars for its battery life.
OPPO's executive director Michael Tran said: “As a business, OPPO is all about delivering the best quality smartphones at a price Aussies can afford.
“That philosophy has clearly resonated well with Australian consumers, as we have quickly grown to establish a robust retail and carrier partner network and an incredibly loyal and passionate fan base.”
The company's flagship phone, the OPPO R11, can be bought for as little as $600. For that price, you'll get an Android phone with a 20MP rear camera and a 5.5-inch HD display, along with super-fast charging.
