O2 has announced the launch date for one of its most eagerly-awaited smartphones this week.
The network revealed that after weeks of continuous speculation, the Palm Pre would be made available on October 16th – which may interest those recycling mobile phones to pay for the gadget.
It was announced in July this year that O2 would be the only carrier for the handset after an exclusive deal was agreed, but at the time the firm would only state that the model would be out “in time for the winter holidays”.
Since then, sites like Electricpig have quashed rumours of early September releases, although the resource did detail an event had been scheduled for journalists that would offer a chance to put the Palm Pre to the test.
Chief executive officer of Telefonica O2 Ronan Dunne commented: “With the addition of the excellent Palm Pre to our already extensive portfolio, we will continue to offer our customers the widest range of the very best devices.”
The smartphone features the webOS software system – which was put together specifically for the handset.
