There is no doubt about it, social media is one of the most effective and important tools that individuals, businesses and celebrities can use in today’s growing digital age.
With each platform offering apps to be downloaded onto smartphones (with Facebook having more than one), it is no surprise that the popularity and use of these is continuing to grow, and it has actually been found that Tumblr and Pinterest are the fastest growing of these platforms.
This may seem somewhat surprising to hear given that image sharing platform, Instagram, was the undisputed leader earlier this year. But when it came to an increase in users, the past six month certainly saw Tumblr and Pinterest take the lead, according to the Global Web Index.
Tumblr saw its users grow by a phenomenal 120 per cent, while Pinterest saw theirs increase by 111 per cent.
Incredibly, Facebook’s users only increased by two per cent, but that is perhaps due to the fact that it is already one of the most established social media platforms available. In fact, of the top eight platforms, Facebook came in last when it came to an increase in users, after LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube and Google+, as well as Tumblr, Pinterest and Instagram.
However, it must be taken into account that this does not refer to overall popularity, as Facebook is still the number one social media site to be used, and while it has seen a rapid increase over the past few months, Tumblr actually ranked at eighth place when it comes to this.
One reason behind the phenomenal increase in such blog-like, imaged-based platforms may well be the fact that with smartphone cameras, which are constantly improving, combined with the easiness of using their apps make them much more fun and engaging.
When it came to actual sole mobile apps, Snapchat had the biggest growth of 56 per cent over the last six months.
