Enthusiastic users of social networking sites – such as Facebook and Twitter – may find they have plenty to gain from trading in a mobile phone.
Research by Experian Hitwise has concluded social media portals are now the most popular online destination in the UK for the first time.
The sites have overtaken entertainment offerings as the favourite internet activity among Britons, with 2.4 billion visitors to social networks during January 2011 alone.
As such, those looking to access their Facebook account while on the move could trade in a mobile and upgrade to one of the latest smartphones.
The study also found social networks are behind only search engines in terms of creating traffic to transactional websites.
Another advantage of owning one of the latest models may be the ability to catch up with friends at any time or in any location.
Tristia Clarke, commercial director at TalkTalk, this week said mobile users could have a range of good offers to look forward to, following Ofcom's decision to reduce mobile termination rates between operators.
