The link between mobile recycling and how this can help the environment is rarely discussed, one expert has advised.
According to a spokeswoman for T-Mobile, more people need to be aware of the options available to them when it comes to disposing of used handsets in a more thoughtful manner.
The network’s head of corporate responsibility Allison Murray made her comments in support of a new mobile application the firm is launching to support mobile recycling.
“We don’t often hear about the link between throwing waste in landfill and the contribution it makes to global warming, when in fact methane gas produced from landfill sites is a powerful greenhouse gas,” she explained.
Of course, many people sell used handsets in order to generate cash to pay for the latest models – like the Apple iPhone 3G S.
