According to moneysupermarket.com, which six months ago launched its National Recycle Your Phone Week, there are multiple reasons to trade in a used handset that is no longer wanted.
It explained people were coming to realise that mobile recycling is an easy way to generate a bit of cash while keeping the Earth a little greener.
James Parker, manager of mobiles at the group, said its own initiative had been a great success – with more than 20,000 handsets being saved from going to landfill over a six month period.
“[The] need for the latest gadget is why people are accumulating more spare phones than ever before. If recycled, they can be put to good use,” he added.
It was noted one of the most recycled mobiles is the Nokia N95 – which could generate over £100.
