Alcatel to launch four affordable smartphones this August

Alcatel has always been one of the most reliable suppliers of capable yet affordable smartphones for the Australian market, and the company is now looking to build on that by launching four new handsets later this year.

The Alcatel 1C, 1, 1X and 3V will all hit stores in August and retail for less than $200, meaning users can expect to receive many of the best features and functions of a high-end smartphone at a fraction of the usual price.

All four of the new phones offer striking 18:9 displays, great image quality and carefully optimised performance, while the 1 Series are designed to be entry-level options and the 3V available for those willing to pay a little extra for some additional horsepower and functionality.

The Alcatel 1C is the lowest-priced option at a mere $89, offering a 5.3-inch display, a 1.3 GHz quad-core processor with 1 GB RAM and 16 GB storage, plus 5MP front-facing and 8MP rear cameras. Thanks to its 2,460mAh battery, it can deliver long-lasting performance at a bargain cost.

Meanwhile, the 1 and the 1X offer a few improvements on the cheaper model, including moderate performance boosts and an Android GO operating system with built-in data management tools and the Google Play Protect security suite. The mid-range Alcatel 1 will cost $99, with the higher-end 1X costing $129.

Finally, the Alcatel 3V offers a 1.45 GHz quad-core processor, 2GB RAM, 16GB storage, a 5 MP front camera and dual 12 MP and 2 MP rear cameras, plus Face Key and fingerprint sensors for extra security. It also packs in a 3,000 mAh battery, meaning it provides a lot of capability for its $199 price tag.

Sam Skontos, vice president and regional managing director for Alcatel Mobile in the South-East Asia and Pacific region, said: “There continues to be a need and strong demand for compelling sub-$200 alternatives, with Aussies craving affordable yet well-made, attractive options.

“We work closely with our parent company TCL to ensure we leverage its manufacturing capabilities that means we can bring immersive entertainment experiences and attractive devices to our smartphone customers through 18:9 displays, improved battery life and enhanced camera quality, all at an affordable price.”
